We are working on developing a substitute pool for secondary education in our region. We are doing this together and in line with the national working group on this topic. At the moment, we are in the exploratory phase, defining our choices and priorities. One of the most important points of attention is that the substitute pool should not be a leftover pool may become, so not a collection of only (!) temporary workers or people without qualifications. Instead, we want to purposefully build a quality pool of teachers for our region.
The initial focus is on addressing shortages in core subjects. In addition, we want to actively encourage competent and experienced teachers to join the pool. We are thinking, for instance, of retired teachers who can deploy their expertise at schools where it is structurally difficult to find qualified teachers. The substitute pool will be supra-administrative. This means that all schools in our region can call on the pool.
Good to know: because we operate within a large education region, we are working towards a division into sub-regions. This allows for local customisation while working together regionally to find a sustainable solution to the teacher shortage.
