Atlas College is looking for the OSG West-Friesland in Hoorn a temporary biology teacher

  • 18-19 hours per week (0.8 FTE)
  • Second-degree qualification (or almost qualified)
  • To cover for a colleague on leave
  • From end of October 2026 to mid-March 2027

Enthusiasm! That’s what our pupils love. It’s how you engage them, take them along, and help them progress. And it’s not just the pupils who will shine because of it: you will too! It’s rewarding to see ‘your’ pupils enjoy coming to your lessons. They feel safe and heard. All children are different. And you see the beauty in that.

What will you do?
The OSG is a comprehensive school community offering MAVO, HAVO, and VWO levels. You will teach lessons at the lower levels of MAVO, HAVO, and VWO. In this way, you contribute to the continuous learning pathway at all levels and your days will be nice and varied. You will guide the students in achieving their learning goals. Some will need a bit more coaching than others. You are there for them. They know that, and that makes your work extra appealing.

Working with a stimulating teaching method
We work with the Nectar teaching method. A method that allows for a lot of differentiation. The method is very up-to-date with fun, interesting, and challenging contexts to support the subject matter. However, we have room for so much more than just method-based work. We work extensively on projects with creative assignments where students use all their skills and acquire new knowledge and abilities in a playful way. Using activating and differentiating didactics, you challenge students to actively think along and gain confidence in their own abilities.

Working in a nice team
Within our team, you'll be part of a close-knit and committed biology section, consisting of six colleagues. Together, you'll be responsible for the subject matter and for each other. Togetherness is paramount: we do it together. Additionally, you'll have a workspace in a beautiful school, housed in a unique and historic building.

What do you bring?
You possess enthusiasm and passion, enjoy working collaboratively in a team and have sufficient expertise to inspire and help students progress.
Preferably, you will have a second-degree teaching qualification. Even if you are almost qualified or still studying, you are very welcome.

What does your appreciation look like?
This position is graded at scale LB. Our collective labour agreement also offers attractive secondary benefits, such as an excellent holiday arrangement, a generous (fiscal) exchange scheme, and a semi-collective disability insurance. Naturally, we invest in your professional development. New colleagues are guided by our NAP team (newly appointed personnel team).

This is us

We have around 1300 students and 130 staff members. Our core values are strongly felt and visible: inquisitive, cultural, collaborative, and individualistic. Do you value a working environment where quality, enjoyment, and engagement are paramount? Then you'll quickly feel at home with us. About Atlas College | OSG West-Friesland

School portrait

OSG West-Friesland offers education at mavo, havo, technasium, atheneum and gymnasium level. Would you like to work in an environment where you are challenged to get the best out of yourself, where you can be yourself and where your opinion really matters? Then the OSG is the school for you.

In the middle of Hoorn you will find the OSG's characteristic, historic building. We work according to four key core values.

Together
At the OSG, we believe it is important to do things together. Students, parents and staff work together to ensure that the OSG is a positive and stimulating learning and living environment. This allows you to get the best out of yourself and everyone feels recognised, seen and appreciated. We strive for a high degree of openness and respect between teachers, pupils and educational support staff.

Cultural
Creative subjects occupy an important place at the OSG. Just like art and culture in general. We like to make you curious about other people's creative, unusual ideas and how they apply these ideas. But we find it just as important that you find your own, original solutions to issues. Not only in art subjects, but also in all other subjects, we encourage you to use your imagination.

Quirky
At the OSG, we want you to learn to be curious, independent, positively critical and to form and substantiate your own opinions. We give you space to think independently, encourage you to think outside the box and we like to hear your opinions. At the OSG we are open to your ideas, we encourage you and offer you the space to carry out your own plans if necessary. As a school we assume your own identity, your own background and your own emotions: there is a place for everyone at the OSG.

Enquiry
At the OSG, we think education only really succeeds when you ask yourself things, are curious, are able to explore independently and find answers to your questions.

The OSG is part of the Atlas College school group. For a more comprehensive picture of our school, please refer to our website: www.osgwestfriesland.nl
