Therefore, we are looking for an expert and decisive Privacy Officer to help our organisation handle confidential information safely and responsibly. Do you have a keen eye for privacy risks and can you make complex legislation understandable for colleagues in education? Then this role is perfect for you.
As the Data Protection Officer (DPO), you are the point of contact regarding privacy within the Atlas College. You work independently and advise the schools autonomously. Together with the Head of ICT and the Secretary of the Executive Board, you protect the personal data of students and staff. You are responsible for establishing and implementing privacy policies, conducting DPIAs, handling data breaches, and advising colleagues on data processing. Additionally, you will implement the IBP Normenkader (Information Security Framework for Education). You maintain contact with the Data Protection Officer (FG) and the Dutch Data Protection Authority (AP). With your knowledge, you ensure that the schools comply with the GDPR and other important privacy laws. As the Data Protection Officer, you report to the Secretary of the Executive Board on the progress and compliance of the privacy policy.
What will you do?
In this role:
- You oversee the processing of personal data within the organisation.
- Develop and implement your privacy policy based on relevant laws and regulations translating this into practical guidelines and workable processes.
- Oversee and assess your Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIA).
- You manage the processing register and handle data protection queries and complaints.
- Handle data breaches and security incidents and report them to the AP if necessary.
- Advise your colleagues and provide information on privacy and data processing, thereby playing an important role in increasing privacy awareness.
- Maintain contact with the FG and external supervisors.
- You work independently, but in close contact with the Head of ICT and the Chairman of the Executive Board, acting as an advisor for the schools within the Atlas College, both upon request and on your own initiative.
- You have a relevant Bachelor's or Master's degree (e.g., law, safety science, information management).
- You have demonstrable knowledge of and experience with the GDPR and privacy regulations.
- You are analytically strong and have persuasive power to implement policy broadly.
- You work meticulously, communicate clearly, and can switch between policy and practice.
- You are empathetic, curious and know how to build trust within the organisation.
This role within the Atlas College offers a great deal of scope for personal input. You will be graded in accordance with the CAO VO, scale 10, depending on your experience and profile. In addition, we offer attractive secondary employment conditions with a choice model, a good leave arrangement and opportunities for professional development.

Good education, good for each other!
Atlas College provides excellent education, tailored to each student. All students enjoy coming to school and encounter a pleasant, safe learning and living environment. As an employer and an education provider, Atlas College strives to teach employees and students to shine.“
...core values...
What does Atlas College stand for? What do we believe in, what connects us and who do we want to be? We summarise the answers to these questions in three Atlas-wide core values:
- Accessibility: Everyone is welcome, we have a place and an offer for everyone.
- Diversity: We learn from differences.
- Sustainability: We work and learn for now and tomorrow.
...and ambitions
Besides the core values, the Atlas schools share three ambitions:
Valuable education for every pupil
This means:
- education that students value, as Atlas College makes every effort to ensure that they are active, eager to learn and meaningful at school;
- education that matches the individual talents and skills of the pupil as much as possible;
- education in which students feel seen, valued and challenged and satisfied with what they learn;
- education that promotes and embeds Atlas College's core values of accessibility, diversity and sustainability, thus supporting students in their process of making a difference in the society they live in from strength.
Valued performance
Atlas College wants to achieve performance that is valued by students, parents, further education and organisations we work with. In addition, Atlas College wants to be systematically accountable for the results achieved.
Powerful colleagues
Strong colleagues are needed to realise ambitions. They are colleagues who can and want to take control of their own tasks and development and remain in dialogue about them. And colleagues who are aware that they are part of a professional learning community.
The core values and ambitions are the common thread in what binds the Atlas schools together to form Atlas College.
