Teaching your subject is of course the basis of your work. In addition, we give you the freedom and space to devote part of your working week to other tasks, such as educational development or mentoring tasks.

Your duties as a teacher will include:

  • Provide English lessons for lower secondary classes VMBO/HAVO/VWO 1 to 3 and VMBO-TL 4 (class distribution in consultation);
  • Contribute to the personal development of your students;
  • (possibly) be a coach/mentor for a number of students;
  • strengthening the continuous learning line together with colleagues from the subject section;
  • (possibly) providing a dalton hour (elective work time for pupils who need more guidance or more challenge).

If you become our new colleague, we'll organise an onboarding programme for you for the first year so that you can really settle in well. Together with a teaching coach and your buddy from the department, you'll discover everything that the Stedelijk Dalton College Alkmaar has to offer you.

About Stedelijk Dalton College Alkmaar

The Stedelijk Dalton College Alkmaar is a broad comprehensive school covering vmbo to vwo. Our education is based on the principles of Dalton education. We believe that pupils benefit most from a broad education. Cognitively and culturally as well as athletically and socially-emotionally. We encourage our broad pupils in their independence, responsibility, ability to cooperate and reflection. How? By expressing these core values ourselves first and foremost.

On the way to something new

Together with OSG Willem Blaeu, we are aiming for a school merger on 1 August 2027, a wonderful opportunity. Together on the way to a new school for Alkmaar.

The new school will be a future-oriented, inclusive learning community.

Alongside a solid foundation, pupils are given the space and guidance to shape their own learning journey. They contribute to school decisions, work on real-world issues, and make choices that align with their interests and ambitions. This way, they discover who they are, what they are capable of, and where they want to go.

The fundamental principles on which the new school is based are:

  • Small-scale learning community
  • Thinking and doing in balance
  • Learning in your own way

The new school: small in connection, grand in development.
