About Bertrand Russell college
Education at Bertrand Russell College has stood for more than just a diploma for 50 years. Powerful features of our education are the positive atmosphere, personal attention and the many opportunities offered within a wide range of provision. The 120 staff are highly committed and eager to provide the support and guidance students need.
Bertrand Russell College is a public school for havo and atheneum, educating around 1012 pupils. The school is located in two school buildings on Erasmusstraat in Krommenie. We have had exam results at or above the national average for many years. Pupils have freedom of choice in following flex-modules at the beginning and end of the day. Here, we work in small groups, where pupils can choose to deepen, broaden and support themselves. In addition to the regular subjects, attention is paid to science development (WON), bilingual education (TTO), philosophy, debating, internationalisation, theatre lessons, STEM in junior high (STEAM), sports lessons (BSM) and much more. Pupils are very satisfied with their mentor and the guidance they receive when things get tough.
Our mission and vision for education
At Bertrand Russell College, anything is still possible. We get the most out of every pupil and we believe it is important that pupils feel at home at our pleasantly ambitious school. Pupil learning is central so that pupils discover and develop their talents.
At Bertrand Russell College, students follow high-quality inspiring and interactive lessons and receive customised guidance from committed and content-rich professionals. To this end, we combine modern lessons (blended learning) with personal attention and offer many choices to develop increasing ownership among pupils. This stimulates our students.
This stimulus and the anticipation of constantly changing opportunities in the future labour market and society contribute to the broad development of our pupils. Besides learning at school, our pupils also learn a lot outside school through cultural, social, sports, creative and international activities.
The combination of theory and practice is a success factor for graduation at Bertrand Russell College. Cooperation with colleges and universities ensures above-average results for our students during further education. We are therefore very proud of our students and staff.
Working at Bertrand Russell college
We aim for employees to feel at home with us as soon as possible and become familiar with the school's culture. New teachers, experienced or inexperienced, are supervised in the first year at school by a workplace supervisor or a teacher mentor. By means of an introduction programme on the first school day and theme meetings during the year, new teachers are introduced to our teaching. This is in addition to the subject-related guidance from the section to which the teacher belongs. New teachers are observed during lessons at least twice a year, after which a follow-up discussion always takes place. There are also opportunities for participation in extra courses or workshops.
