Training school

We are working hard on establishing our new Regional Training School, which will encompass all schools within ROWF and AONHW from the 2026-2027 academic year. This school will be a partnership between the teacher training colleges and MBO (vocational education) and VO (secondary education) schools in our region. Students will complete their internships at one of the schools and will receive intensive on-the-job mentoring. The Regional Training School focuses on 'training within the school', with a central emphasis on practical experience, connected to research and educational development.

Until AOHNW and ROWF actually merge, you can go to either school:

The Academic Training School North Holland West, or AONHW for short, is a federal partnership of fifteen secondary schools, three colleges and two universities in North Holland.

The partners are jointly responsible for training teachers in both first and second-degree areas. In addition, the AONHW links teacher training, the professional development of its own staff, school development, and personnel policy.

You are looking for a training school where you

  • Optimal preparation for professional practice?
  • Seen as a colleague immediately?
  • You can make mistakes, but where you are constantly assured by skilled supervisors and trainers?
  • Do you find research to be a self-evident way of learning?

Then you've come to the right place at the Academic Training School North Holland West! Below you will find the contact persons and email addresses of the AONHW schools.

ROWF training school

Five teacher training colleges in Amsterdam and twelve school boards in North Holland (41 secondary schools and thirteen MBO institutions) jointly provide work-based learning. A large part of the training takes place in practice, at the secondary or MBO schools. Future teachers are expertly guided and trained at the ROWF.

These are the partners that together form the ROWF:
Teacher training colleges: HvA, ALO, Breitner, UvA and VU.
Schools: Atlas, Tabor, Martinus, RSG Enkhuizen, RSG Wiringherlant, Praktijkschool West-Friesland, PSG, Vonk, Talland, Scholen aan Zee, OVO Zaanstad and De Hogeberg.

Each school has a school mentor who is responsible for liaising with the ROWF partners, the training agency, and the institute mentors. The school mentor supports the workplace mentors by organising training and intervision, among other things. There are more than 400 workplace mentors working at the ROWF schools. These are the teachers who coach the students. They are the first point of contact for the students.

The institute trainer is the point of contact for the teacher training programme during the work-based learning placement. They liaise with the student and the school-based mentor to ensure everything is proceeding as desired, and are responsible for the final assessment. The workplace supervisor and school-based mentor provide input for this assessment, as they have a close view of how the development has progressed during the placement.

the agreements on collaboration are laid down, among other things, in the training plan-rowf-version-november-2021:
