The Atlas College is looking for English teacher (second-grade qualification) for the location Copernicus SG in Hoorn

  • Scope: 0.6 FTE, possibility of expansion through the use of flexible hours and/or mentorship
  • Second-degree qualification or studying for it
  • Start date: 1 August 2026

At the Copernicus, you give students the space to discover who they are and what suits them. You work at a public school offering pre-vocational secondary education (VMBO), senior general secondary education (HAVO) and pre-university education (VWO), where clarity and structure form the foundation. At the same time, there is room to experiment and grow. You feel at home in a no-nonsense school where agreements are clear and where everyone can be themselves.

What makes Copernicus special is the extended bridge period. In mavo/havo, this lasts for two years, and in havo/vwo, it's even three years. Pupils are given time to discover their level, without making hasty choices. In mixed-ability classes, they work at two levels and see for themselves where they stand. With your guidance, you help them progress step by step, in a calm and safe learning environment.

What does this position look like?
At the Copernicus SG, you’ll be given a lot of freedom to shape your lessons however you wish. You’ll become part of a great team where collaboration, development, and engagement are central. Within the English department, you'll work together to improve students' English skills, helping them find their place in a rapidly changing world. From watching Newsround to learn more about British news, to projects about Fast Fashion. What’s more, we do it together. Not just with the entire team, but also with your departmental subject group. Everything to get the most out of the students in an engaging, safe environment.

What do you bring?
You hold a second-grade teaching qualification or are studying for one. You enjoy positively coaching and guiding pupils to achieve their learning goals. Furthermore, you like to keep up with innovations in education, as our world changes rapidly at times.

What do we offer?
A nice working atmosphere with short lines, a lot of mutual trust and plenty of opportunities to develop yourself. You can help shape your own working environment and conditions. A warm, well-organised school where everyone knows each other. knows each other. Did you know that Copernicus SG scores a 9.7 for safety? New colleagues can count on a pleasant start and guidance. Together we will make sure you will soon feel at home with us.

What does your appreciation look like?
This position is valued at scale LB. This collective labour agreement also offers attractive secondary employment conditions, such as 8%% holiday allowance, 8.33%% year-end bonus, a pension scheme with ABP, and generous leave facilities. In addition, the Atlas College offers, among other things, generous (tax) exchange schemes, and there is ample scope for professionalisation and development. Every employee has a training budget for skill enhancement.
