About the Castor College

What will you do?
- You are responsible for the daily management of the caretaker team.
- You have weekly meetings with the school leadership regarding the daily routine and facilities within the school.
- You manage the allocation, scheduling, and monitoring of the execution, progress, and quality of work.
- Together with your fellow caretakers, you keep the school running smoothly in terms of facilities. You open and close the school, top up copiers and the coffee machine, carry out large copying jobs, replace towel dispensers, empty bins, keep the school neat and clean, collect waste paper and keep track of supplies. Where necessary, you place orders.
- During the breaks, you supervise the pupils in the break areas, by the lockers, and in the square and outdoor area together with teachers.
- You help pupils with practical matters, for example when they have lost their locker key or have a flat tyre.
- You provide assistance during emergencies, first aid, and company emergency response situations, and know when it is necessary to call in additional help.
- You supervise the safety and security in and around the main building and the junior pavilion. In doing so, you pay attention to, among other things, keeping emergency exits and escape routes clear.
- You carry out minor technical tasks in consultation, such as repairing doors and hanging roller blinds.
- You investigate defects and faults and resolve them yourself where possible. When that is not possible, you engage the appropriate external party.
- You supervise external parties who visit for interim inspections or work on movable and immovable property.
- You are occasionally present during parent-teacher evenings and arrange the facilities on these evenings.
- You occasionally provide coffee and tea during meetings.
- You contribute to a safe, welcoming and pleasant atmosphere within the school.
- You are a dedicated and reliable colleague who is happy to roll up your sleeves.
- You are practically minded and think in solutions.
- You are able to work well independently, but also enjoy collaborating with colleagues.
- You have good communication skills and are approachable for pupils, colleagues, parents and visitors.
- You are good at keeping an overview and know how to set priorities, even when several matters are at play at the same time.
- You are flexible and have no problem attending a parents' evening or being present outside of regular hours on an occasional basis.
- You have a strong sense of responsibility and an eye for safety and well-being within the school.
- You are handy and have an affinity for carrying out small technical and facilities tasks.
- You are able to manage a team in a pleasant and clear way.
- You are capable of acting calmly and adequately in the event of emergencies and unexpected situations.
- You ideally have experience in a similar facilities or concierge role.
- A varied and meaningful role within secondary education.

The terms and conditions of employment at SVOK
At SVOK, you fall under the secondary education (VO) collective labour agreement. Some employment conditions are already very well arranged within the collective labour agreement. About Castor College
Het Castor College is a comprehensive school offering MAVO, HAVO, Atheneum, and Gymnasium levels, with its central promise: "We see you!" We work together daily to fulfil this promise: everyone – pupils, teachers, and support staff – contributes to ensuring you feel seen, known, and taken seriously within our school community. we see diversity as a strength; every pupil is welcome, can be themselves, and is given the space to grow according to their abilities and ambitions.
We are developing a contemporary curriculum step by step, in which, in addition to regular subject lessons, there is also room for cross-curricular and project-based work. With Groeikracht from Stichting Leerkracht, we are working together on a professional culture in which collaboration, ownership, and continuous improvement are becoming increasingly self-evident. As a team, we are curious, we want to learn, and we explore together what works in the classroom. We experiment, give each other feedback, and build better education step by step – with enjoyment and with impact, always with “We see you” as our guiding compass for the coming year.
Collaboration is essential in this. Every teacher is a (dual) mentor and regularly consults with mentors of the same year group. In addition, we work in subject departments, clusters, and projects such as vwo+, language and numeracy skills, and internationalisation. We actively involve both colleagues and students in new developments; students participate in thinking and doing within committees and projects, so they too are co-creators of a school where you feel seen.
We believe in everyone's potential for growth, allowing for mistakes, and being able to address each other respectfully throughout the entire school. As a training school, we consciously invest in the development of (new) colleagues through guidance, coaching, lesson observations, and peer support. In this way, we strive to achieve the same for our staff as for our students: We see you – and we will continue to build on that together, even more explicitly next year, every single day.
