Living lab Students with appointments

Background
Due to increasing staff shortages, regular teacher training students (full-time and part-time) are increasingly being used during their internships to fill open teaching hours. This raises questions about the impact on both students and the quality of teaching.

Objective
The aim of this living lab is to gain concrete insights into the use of students with paid appointments for teaching duties. The research focuses on:

  • Identifying potential risks to students and educational process
  • Exploring the desirability of this deployment
  • Identifying required adjustments in supervision or training of students
  • Exploring possible positive effects of this practice

Research methodology
What adjustments to existing structures are needed?

Quantitative research
Mapping the number of regular students fulfilling paid teaching hours, including data on year of study, subject area, number of teaching hours and type of school (VMBO, HAVO, VWO, MBO).

Qualitative research
Interviews with relevant stakeholders to investigate:

  • What interests come into play?
  • What risks arise and how are they substantiated?
  • What opportunities does this situation present?
