Innovation & Research

Innovation and education are inextricably linked and yet -due to time constraints and full agendas, among other things- it is difficult to realise research in individual schools. Reason enough to take up innovation and research within the Education Region. Within our team, we take experience we have already gained, continue to develop and tackle new issues. The focus? Always on innovation and research that really benefits schools.

Practice-oriented innovation & research

'Organising, thinking and acting differently.'

Within Education Region Hollands Noorden, practice-based research is an essential pillar to achieve sustainable solutions to the shortage of teaching staff. Our ambition is to utilise existing knowledge, strengthen the interconnection and invest in a regional innovation and research culture with more structure and ownership.

Strategic workforce planning in practice

Our education region developed a Strategic Personnel Planning (SPP) that provides insight into personnel developments within our education region. The tool not only provides valuable insights at regional level, but can also be used as part of the strategic HRM of individual school boards

Innovation grant 26/27

Education region Hollands Noorden makes grant available for practical research, pilots and experiments conducted by VO and mbo schools themselves. The initiatives should help schools to

  • make teaching more practical and inspiring
  • discovering together how to deal with scarcity
  • continue to provide good and appropriate education for their pupils/students and in a way that energises their daily teaching practice

Frequently asked questions

Practice-oriented means that the questions, ideas and challenges come directly from the schools - from teachers, teams or managers. Innovation is about developing or trying out new ways of working, tools or organisational forms. Research means systematically looking at what works, why it works and how it can be improved. By combining national figures and our own school data, schools and boards gain insight into where deficits arise. With that knowledge, they can develop targeted, sustainable solutions that match changing realities.

We strengthen the energy and ingenuity within schools by giving space to ideas from practice and linking them to research. In this way, we discover together what really works and build step by step solutions that not only inspire, but are also widely applicable throughout the region.

By combining innovation and research with our educational region's SPP model, we strengthen each other: innovations offer new perspectives, research safeguards quality and the SPP model provides insight into (future) personnel developments and the associated challenges. This creates a powerful whole that helps schools make sustainable choices.
