WHO ARE WE?
t Stichting Samenwerkingsschool offers specialised education in the Noordkop. At our schools in Den Helder, Texel and Schagen, we offer special primary education, special education (ZMLK), secondary special education (ZMLK) and secondary education (Praktijkonderwijs). Pupils aged 4 to 20 receive the extra support that helps them face their future with confidence. The administrative office is located in Den Helder. Our pupils are as ordinary as they are special. We stand for their personal interests and work on the basis of different learning styles, levels and speeds. We patiently look for what does work, even in moments of resistance or stagnation. We give space to pupils' emotions and listen without judging. We focus on developing a positive self-image and promoting personal growth.
HOW IS THE ENVIRONMENT?
The Kop van Noord-Holland is a diverse region with relatively large amounts of space, tranquillity, healthy air, maritime traditions and innovative activity. It really is a beautiful area to live in. The sea is always nearby. The area consists of the municipalities of Den Helder, Schagen, Hollands Kroon and Texel.
WHICH SCHOOLS ARE INVOLVED?
It involves leading two independent schools. The base location for the new headmaster is the Kompasschool Den Helder. The school has about 120 pupils and employs 30 staff from a range of expertise and competences. The Kompasschool Texel, based in Den Burg, is attended by over 30 pupils. Education is provided at the school for groups 1 to 8. The team consists of 14 employees. The daily operations are led by a location leader.
WHY THE SHARED WORKING TIME FACTOR?
The new director leads both schools. The Kompasschool Texel works largely separately and independently, but we want to realise an active connection between the director and the site leader on site. This is expressed in the working time factor: fte 0.8 for the Kompasschool in Den Helder and fte 0.2 for the Kompasschool Texel. It is not necessary for the director to visit Texel every week; however, we do reserve time in the appointment to enable and emphasise active attention.
LOOKING TO THE FUTURE...
The world of education is always changing. Through a policy framework, the government states its intention to achieve more inclusive schools by 2035. That future is already being felt now. The focus is mainly on the position of special primary education (SBO). The staff there will play an increasingly supportive role in primary schools. That means change: a gradual transition to a different way of working.
WHY THE PLUS IN SBO+?
With this "plus" we mean that the initial situation consists of leading two schools: the Kompasschool Den Helder and the Kompasschool Texel.

Due to the anticipated changes, a third school may potentially be added in the medium term. If this merger goes ahead, the new headteacher will at some point become the executive headteacher of the three sites. The idea is then to appoint a site leader at each school for support.

In this situation, they – internally and externally, alongside the director – are involved in advocating for, representing, and shaping the SBO's core and strategic interests within the region.
