About Schools by the Sea
Who we are
Scholen aan Zee is a comprehensive school community from vmbo primary to grammar school. We also have a location for non-native speakers: Schakel aan Zee. We work together with partners within the local community and respond to developments and opportunities.
We provide education at four sites, but operate as one school.
Our core values
Our core values highlight what we as Schools by the Sea consider important. On a daily basis, they give us a sense of unity and for the future, they are our compass when making decisions about the education of our pupils.
Safety
Schools by the Sea recognises and supports pupils to ‘be who they are’, to feel safe within their own age group, in the classroom, at school and beyond. A safe environment is the basis for every pupil and staff member to achieve good education. School, pupil and parents work together in this. We do this with respect for each other and for everything in our environment.
Fun
At Scholen aan Zee, there is plenty of room to enjoy gaining new knowledge and experiences. In a relaxed atmosphere, all pupils and staff are allowed to develop and pursue their own dreams. In this way, everyone enjoys going to school and we create beautiful memories that we look back on with pleasure later.
Collaborate
Together, the pupils, staff, parents, other schools, companies and institutions in Den Helder and the surrounding area make a difference for and with each other. Not only to make things better inside the walls of the school, but also outside. By paying attention to each other and showing involvement in everyone's situation, we form the desired, diverse and strong network. This allows everyone to get to know and appreciate each other and the environment better. Moreover, it allows everyone to benefit more from each other's qualities and the pupils discover which role they play in society and where their future lies.
Development
We strive to get the most out of pupils, staff and the environment. There is room for everyone to discover and develop their talents. Through a heterogeneous educational offering with opportunities for individual customisation, we encourage pupils and staff to keep developing. Combined with the high expectations we have of each other, together we create a learning organisation. Everyone is open to change, renewal and growth.
